Kylian Mbappé wins 2026 Ballon d’Or for consistency personified at the very highest level
A record-breaking World Cup and another welter of goals for Los Blancos has brought Kylian Mbappé his first Ballon d’Or triumph. Here we celebrate the French star’s consistency, not just last season, but every season since first emerging as a true phenomenon.
There are a cornucopia of rare traits that first propelled Kylian Mbappé to the very zenith of his sport and subsequently kept him there. His blistering pace is an obvious place to start; the striker recorded a top speed of 37.6 km/h during the 2026 World Cup, the fastest of any player in the tournament.
With a longer step length than most of his peers, and an ability to accelerate at full pelt from a standing start, Mbappé can eviscerate opponents via his explosive running. Pure speed, of course, can only take a player so far when it is not twinned with twinkling footwork and close control — but the Real Madrid star has these gifts in abundance.
Then, naturally, we cannot overlook the goal-scoring that derives from these attributes. Across his career for Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, the lethal finisher has converted 385 goals in 495 appearances, while for France he is already his nation’s all-time record goalscorer, with many more years of his career still to play out.

Harry Kane wins 2026 Ballon d’Or
Harry Kane has been crowned the winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or, becoming the first Englishman to claim football’s most prestigious individual award since Michael Owen in 2001.
The Bayern Munich and England captain’s coronation in London — fittingly, on the 70th anniversary of the very first Ballon d’Or, won by Stanley Matthews — rewards the most prolific campaign of his extraordinary career. Across club and country in 2025–26, Kane registered 73 goals and eight assists in 65 official matches, a staggering return that cemented his status as the world’s pre-eminent pure finisher.
It has been a long journey for Kane, who for years was regarded as one of the greatest players never to have won the Ballon d’Or. Even when he was consistently filling the net for Tottenham Hotspur, the narrative persisted: Kane was the ultimate “big-game scorer”, but perhaps lacked the major collective honour that would tip the balance. That doubt has now been erased.
In his debut season with Bayern, Kane delivered a domestic double, firing the Bavarians to both the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles, while also securing the German Super Cup. At international level, he carried England to the World Cup semi-finals, where they were narrowly eliminated by eventual champions Spain.

Lamine Yamal wins the 2026 Ballon d’Or and sets an unprecedented record!
Lamine Yamal has made football history. At just 19 years old, the Barcelona and Spain star has claimed the 2026 Ballon d’Or, becoming the youngest recipient in the award’s storied history.
In a season that blended club success with international glory, Yamal’s victory recognises not merely his numbers, but the transformative way he changes the rhythm of any match he enters. Whether drifting inside from the right flank, combining with teammates in tight spaces, or driving directly at defenders, the teenager has redefined what it means to be a modern wide attacker.
For Barcelona, Yamal was central to another successful La Liga defence, alongside a Spanish Super Cup triumph. For Spain, he was one of the defining figures of the nation’s World Cup-winning campaign, providing assists, clever combinations and game-changing moments throughout the tournament.
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the speed with which Yamal has climbed from teenage prodigy to the very top of the sport. Only three years ago, he was still breaking records as a child in Barcelona’s academy; today, he stands beside the legends whose footsteps he has long followed.
