Eddy Beckers, head of the Belgian delegation, said: “These games were fantastic. Our team is really a tight group that has made some great achievements.”

"We strongly believe in the slogan 'participating is more important than winning'. We are incredibly proud of all our athletes' achievements," said Hans Bruyninckx, president of Special Olympics Belgium. Special Olympics Belgium calls for greater inclusion of people with disabilities. “We want to make sure that people with disabilities can fully be part of society… Sports and a healthy lifestyle play an important role in achieving that, and that’s what we’ll keep focusing on.”

The Special Olympics mission remains as vital today as it was when the movement was founded in 1968. The Special Olympics strives to create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion of all people. After this year’s closing ceremony at the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin passed the Olympic Flame of Hope on to Perth in Australia, where the next Games will take place in 2027.
