Mike Penberthy, who has served as a shooting coach for the Denver Nuggets since 2022, is expected to join Jason Kidd’s staff in Dallas, according to a source.
Penberthy was an assistant coach alongside Kidd during the Lakers’ title run in 2020; he also won a championship with the Lakers as a player in 2001. Penberthy and Kidd both joined the Lakers’ staff in 2019, and while Kidd left to coach the Mavericks in 2021, Penberthy remained on staff until 2022; he was not retained when Darvin Ham assumed the head coach role in Los Angeles. As mentioned above, he then joined the Nuggets organization as as pro scout and shooting coach shortly after and was on staff for Denver’s 2023 title run. Penberthy began his coaching career in 2018 as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Pelicans.
