Japan has issued a tsunami advisory for: -Southern Pacific Coast of Hokkaido -East Coast of Aomori Prefecture -Iwate Prefecture -Miyagi Prefecture This comes just days after Japan's weather agency issued its highest-level megaquake warning on Tuesday, the first time the top-tier alert has been used since the system launched in 2022. Monday night's powerful quake injured at least 51 people and triggered widespread tsunami warnings with waves up to 70cm in coastal communities. That quake struck around 11:15pm in the Pacific Ocean, roughly 50 miles off Aomori's coast. The megaquake warning covers approximately 800 miles, stretching from Chiba, just east of Tokyo, all the way to Hokkaido in the north. Japan sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire and experiences frequent seismic activity, but back-to-back significant quakes following a historic warning has the region on high alert.
