TheShanghaiCenter

TheIMFShanghai(SH)Centerisanewregionalresearchinstitutethatiscurrentlyintheprocessofbuildingupoperations.TheCenterwillserveasaninformationandknowledgehub,andpioneermacroeconomicandfinancialpolicyresearchofinteresttoemergingmarketandmiddle-incomecountries,toallowtheIMFgainadeeperunderstandingofAsia-PacificperspectivesandtoserveasabridgebetweenacademiainAsiaandeconomistsattheIMF’sheadquartersinWashingtonDC.Outputswillincluderesearchpapers,conferences,andeventsforpolicymakersandacademics.TheSHCenterislocatedintheHuangpudistrictofShanghaiandsharesabuildingwiththeChina-IMFCapacityDevelopmentCenter(CICDC).

Theresearch(economic)analystswillbepartoftheCenter’sresearchstaffandsupporttheworkoftheSHCentermanagement,itseconomistsandvisitingscholars,inconductingresearchonAsia-relatedmacroeconomicandfinancialtopics.

DutiesandResponsibilities

ParticipateinShanghaiCenterresearchprojects.Initiateanalyticalwork,especiallyeconometricanalysis,andunderpintheworkonpapersandpublicationsproducedbytheCenter.Assistwiththeorganizationofresearchseminarsandconferences.

Compilestatisticaldata,compareandevaluatealternativedatasources,andensureconsistencyofseriesanddefinitions.Evaluatedatausingstatisticalandeconometrictechniques.Developandmaintaincomprehensiveandfullydocumenteddatabases.

Maintainrelevantcomputersoftware,aswellaswrite,update,modify,andexecutecomputerprogramsforstatisticalandeconometricanalysis.

QualificationsandSkills

Educationandexperience.AMaster’sdegreeineconomics,finance,statistics,mathematics,computerscience,datascience,oranotherrelatedquantitativefield.Relevantworkexperience(e.g.,econometrics,statistics,finance)wouldbeaplus.

Workskills.ProficiencyinMSExcel,aswellasintheuseofanalytical,statistical,andeconometricsoftwarepackagessuchasSTATA,EViews,R,TSP,SPSS,Matlab,andSAS.Experienceinworkingwithfinancialandmacroeconomicdatasetswouldbeplus,aswouldbetheabilitytousearangeofvisualpresentationtools(e.g.,PowerPoint,MSExcelcharts,Tableau,Keynote)anddatabasemanagementtools(PowerBI,SQL,MSAccess,IBMCognosBI).

FluencyinEnglish,bothwrittenandorally,isamust.

Stronginterpersonalandopencommunicationskills,includingacollegialapproachtowork.Theabilitytodealtactfullyandinaprofessionalmannerinamulti-nationalenvironment,withstaffandvisitorsfromdifferentculturesandbackgrounds.

EmploymentConditions

Appointmentsareinitiallyforoneyearbutcanberenewed.ResearchAnalystsareexpectedtostaynolongerthanfouryearsattheIMFShanghaiCenter,however.

PayisorientedontheUnitedNationsNationalOfficerA-ScaleandisexemptfromChineseincometax.Compensationincludeshealthinsurance,acashallowancepaidalongwithsalary,andalumpsumpaymentatseparationinlieuofapension.TheSHCentermaybeabletoassistwithaccesstohousingintheHuangpudistrict,incooperationwiththelocalauthorities.

ViablecandidatesmustbenationalsorresidentsofChinaorbeabletoindependentlyobtainavalidworkpermitbeforestartingemploymentwiththeFund.Proofofnationality,residency,and/orworkauthorizationwillberequiredpriortostartingemployment.TheSHCenterwillnotsponsororprovideassistanceforobtainingworkpermits.
