Drawing upon the meditative practice of Dzogchen rooted in Tibetan Buddhism, alongside the enduring legacy ofical Chinese painting and a conscious openness toward Western abstraction, Pu Wei constructs a layered and resonant pictorial language in which color functions as a vehicle of insight and contemplative awareness rather than as a decorative device. Her canvases unfold as boundless spaces—simultaneously mental and cosmic—where matter seems to arise from emptiness and return to it, echoing the cyclical rhythms of natural processes and the breathing cadence of the universe itself.

Pu Wei's art does not represent; it manifests. It does not describe; it reveals. Grounded in the philosophical frameworks of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, her vision articulates a worldview in which humanity is inseparable from nature, participating in a dynamic equilibrium of flows, tensions, and transformations. Intense, sometimes incandescent chromatic fields coexist with more ethereal tonalities, layered through veils and sedimentations that evoke processes of birth, dissolution, and renewal within a conception of time that is circular rather than linear.

In this context, the notion of emptiness is not absence but generative potential, an expansive field from which all forms may emerge. 1969年出生于云南昆明,中国玄彩画创始人。三岁习画,自幼浸润中国传统文化,尤擅中国画。经过长期艺术探索,2013年前后逐渐形成独具辨识度的艺术语言,并创立“玄彩画”;2018年建立个人艺术品牌“蒲洧玄彩画”。
“玄彩”意为“玄妙之色”。玄彩画根植于东方哲学与中国文化,是从东方艺术思想体系中生发出的当代中国画新形态,具有鲜明的心象艺术特征。
蒲洧以“玄妙色”为核心概念,建构具有东方精神维度的“心性美学”。其创作融合佛教唯识学、藏传佛教大圆满心法、道家之“道”、佛法之“空性”与抽象艺术语言,使色彩不再只是视觉形式,而成为意识、感知与精神经验的显现。

Pu Wei
Born in Kunming, Yunnan in 1969, She is the founder of Chinese contemporary painting – The color of Surupa. Started painting at the age of three, immersed in traditional Chinese culture since childhood, particularly skilled in Chinese painting. After long-term artistic exploration, a unique and distinctive artistic language was gradually formed around 2013, and " The color of Surupa" was established; In 2018, she established a personal art brand called "Pu Wei’s color of Surupa Painting".
“The color of Surupa” means" The high-frequency light and color that naturally emerge in the mind". It is rooted in Eastern philosophy and Chinese culture, and is a new form of contemporary Chinese painting that emerged from the Eastern artistic thought system, with distinct artistic characteristics of mental imagery.
Pu Wei constructed an "Aesthetics of mind and naturel" with an Eastern spiritual dimension based on the core concept of "The color of Surupa". her creations integrate Buddhist Yogacara, the Great Perfection (Dzogchen) of Tibetan Buddhism, Taoist "Dao", Buddhist "emptiness", and abstract artistic language, making color no longer just a visual form, but a manifestation of consciousness, perception, and spiritual experience.
Her works use traditional Chinese painting pigments, rice paper, water, and ink as media to depict the natural scenery, imagery, and illusions between the real world, mental imagery space, and the void realm, forming a spiritual visual path from "imagery" to " non-image" and then to " formlessness", pointing towards consciousness awakening and spiritual liberation.
From the perspective of art history, the color of Surupa is not merely an experiment in abstract form, but rather a systematic reconstruction of the spiritual dimensions, color system, and creative essence of Chinese painting, with Eastern philosophy at its core and contemporary visual style as its form. It uses contemporary international art language to express Eastern thought, making painting a comprehensive medium connecting life, consciousness, the universe, and spiritual practice.
With originality, uniqueness, and cultural depth, Pu Wei's works have attracted attention from the international art community. She has participated in international exhibitions in Italy, France, the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, and other countries, and has been included in numerous international art publications, winning multiple international art awards.
