Sevilla squandered over €20 million in hiring and firing coaches, yet their fortunes have barely turned around.

Neither has the return of Ramos been a panacea for Sevilla's crisis.

In December last year, the Andalusian club parted with coach Diego Alonso for over €4.5 million, then brought in Quique Sanchez Flores who became the third new manager at Sevilla in 2023.

Wasting money excessively on coaching staff is largely to blame for the current plight of the team.

A distinguished name in judicious expenditure, Sevilla now finds itself struggling financially.

As reported by AS newspaper, if Sevilla misses out on European competition next season, they would be shouldering an additional debt of over €100 million. Even wereas they drop down to La Liga's second division during the 2023/24 season, it may mirror a potential disaster.

Over just under two years from the 2022/23 season, the club has had five different managers: Lopetegui, Sampaoli, Mendilibar, Diego Alonso and Flores - costing almost €20 million in managerial changeovers.

Seemingly, winning the UEFA Europa League title created an illusionary bubble for Sevilla as its leadership believed they could keep climbing upwards.

The UEFA Champions League spot awarded post-Europa League victory emboldened the club to persist with Mendilibar. They seemingly ignored his dismal domestic record.

Mendilibar started off poorly this season at Sevilla.

Naturally, the fault does not entirely lie with the 63-year-old coach.

The leadership also made several erroneous decisions regarding player recruitment and transfers, leading to the decline continuing even after appointing Alonso's successor.

Initially, people imagined that Flores could instigate a miracle in clinching the LaLiga mid-season. Sadly, reality was harsher for them as they remain mired in relegation battle, currently standing at 16th place, just six points above the drop zone.

If Spain's Europa League kings must descent to the Segunda Division next season, it will indeed be disastrous. The transformation from an impressive European performance to a potential slash of all its achievements within a year is truly perplexing.
